MarcoPolo

Libreria MarcoPolo is a bookstore on the move. Our current home in Campo Santa Margherita opened in 2015, but the first bookstore with this name dates back to 2002, when it opened in a different part of Venice, near the place where Marco Polo’s house is believed to have stood.

A bookstore on the move, both in terms of location and of what it has to offer. In 2002, it was a travel bookstore, with fiction, non-fiction and guidebooks arranged by geographical area. In 2006 it split in two separate shops, a travel bookstore and a second-hand bookstore selling books in Italian and English. In 2010, the travel bookstore closed, while the second-hand bookstore starten selling new books from a small selection of carefully chosen publishers. In 2015 the bookstore moved to its current location and became entirely devoted to new books..

A bookstore on the move, always changing and adapting.

MarcoPolo is a curated bookstore. Our selection is mainly focused on fiction, with a substantial non-fiction section and a good range of comics and children’s books.

A curated bookstore, where every book is chosen with an eye on the present, and where we try to make room for books and subjects that might otherwise go unnoticed.

A curated bookstore that wants to help people read well: we read the books we sell and recommend before putting them on our shelves.

MarcoPolo is a bookstore that takes a stand. Because running a bookstore today means making choices and standing by them: through the books we recommend, the books we put in our window, and even the books we decide not to stock.

MarcoPolo is an independent bookstore. Perhaps the least distinctive of its defining features, given what the term actually means: a bookstore is considered independent as long as it is owned by individuals rather than by other businesses in the book trade, such as publishers or distributors, and is not part of a franchise.

MarcoPolo is an independent bookstore that does its best to stay independent from anyone who might compromise that freedom. We aim to build relationships with everyone we work with on equal terms and to keep our supply chains as short as possible.
