Intermezzo

In November 2026, our English-language section becomes a bookstore in its own right.

As English-language reading has become an increasingly important part of everyday life at MarcoPolo, our shop in Campo Santa Margherita now has a new space: Intermezzo, somewhere between Libreria MarcoPolo and USATA.

MarcoPolo’s search for books and its curatorial approach continue on Intermezzo’s shelves, with a selection of literature, non-fiction, comics and children’s books, all in English.

Intermezzo is our way of finding a space in between; tan interval between present and past, new and used; a piece of music between one act and the next.
Intermezzo is a word that is the same in Italian and English and it’s also the title of Sally Rooney’s novel. Rooney writes in English, but she isn’t from England: a small reminder of the many places, voices and experiences that make up the world of books.
